Easy Online Divorce and its founder, James Brien, have been featured on Business Insider in an article examining the law firm’s agreement-led approach to divorce in England and Wales.
The article, “Easy Online Divorce Challenges the Assumption That Divorce Must Start With Two Opposing Solicitors,” focuses on Brien’s argument that couples who are able to reach agreement do not necessarily need to begin divorce by instructing two opposing solicitors.
James Brien is the Founder & Managing Director of Easy Online Divorce, an online law firm authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA No. 8008631). Easy Online Divorce provides fixed-fee divorce and agreed financial order services, including consent orders and clean break orders, throughout England and Wales.
Brien founded Easy Online Divorce in 2020 following his own experience of divorce and the traditional solicitor-against-solicitor process. His aim was to create a regulated legal service designed around agreement rather than automatically placing separating couples into an adversarial process.
As Brien explains in the Business Insider article:
“If two people can reach agreement, putting them on opposite sides can create conflict that wasn’t there to begin with, making the process more stressful and pushing up the cost.”

The Markets Insider article also highlights the question at the centre of Brien’s approach to divorce:
